Blazing Turtle

School has started and relatively speaking it has gone pretty smooth. The kindergarten kids are still having a little trouble remembering where their classes are but we haven't lost one yet.

One change this year is in the cafeteria. Students will wash their hands, get their food and then check out through the cashier. Each students K-5 needs to memorize their 6 digit student number. The first full class that memorizes their numbers wins a special treat. Many students in the upper grades are well on their way to memorizing their numbers.

PTA has very cool yellow shirts for sale. I encourage you to get one for your kiddos before they run out. Also, we need lots of volunteers this year throughout the school day. With budget shortfalls across the state class sizes have increased.

District leaders are monitoring our numbers at school. The class with the biggest numbers is 2nd grade. If we do get an additional teacher this will mean that the 3 classes will be divided into 4.

This will be tough as students and parents have bonded with their child's teacher. I wanted everyone to know that I pick the new class by reading level and by random draw. It's tough if your child is the one chose to change classes but it is fair.

I look forward to working with you and your child. Stay involved and engaged!
