Being kind of a guy who likes technology, I have heard the words multi-tasking a lot. After hearing it I have some doubts about it being something that is positive.
Have you seen the commercial where athletes are bouncing a tennis ball with one hand and doing some scientific experiment with the other? I watch it and think how do they do that. It kinda reminds me of when I was a little kid and you tried to rub your stomach and pat your head....possible, but you really had to focus.
I think that is the way with multi-tasking. I'm doing it as I type this blog. I'm watching the NIT and typing this blog. I'm doing to things but one of them suffers. While I'm focused on typing I am not really focused on the game. I have to look up and stop typing and really focus on the game to experience what is going on.
Have you ever had your kids after you have asked them a question and they say those words that most parents do not want to hear......huh? I've heard them. Your child is focused on something...and guess what...it isn't you.
Multi-tasking is possible, what ever the two tasks are...one of them is not getting your best. This happens all throughout the day at all schools in BA...Kids are constantly bombarded by demands by teachers and administrators to multi-task. I'm not sure this environment we put kids into is the best for them. We need to slow down and really allow our kids to focus.
